The City Of Barrie, took over this area from the Township of Innisfil on January 1, 1982. As well from 1985 - 1996, the City of Barrie also assumed portions of Big Bay Point Road. Big Bay Point Road, markes the most Southern entrance to Kempenfelt Bay.
The developer of the Painswick South area, Barrie Heritage Development Corporation, named many of the streets in the area, after family members. A few examples of the streets are:
Dean Avenue, Painswick South, Barrie
Madelaine Drive, Painswick South, Barrie
Esther Drive, Painswick South, Barrie
There is also another significant subdivision in the Painswick South area, with some meaning, relating to the street names. In the subdivision which includes Loon Avenue, all the street names are stemmed from either birds or ducks.
